The Hobbit The Lord of the Rings Boxed Set Paperback by J. R. R. TolkienĀ

      Product description

Immerse yourself in Middle-earth with Tolkienā€™s classic masterpiece, telling the complete story of Bilbo Baggins and the Hobbitsā€™ epic encounters with Gandalf, Gollum, dragons and monsters, in the quest to destroy the One Ring.

When they were first published, The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings became instant classics. Treasured by readers young and old, these works of sweeping fantasy, steeped in unrivalled magic and otherworldliness have sold more than 150 million copies around the world.

This new boxed set offers readers a new opportunity to discover Tolkienā€™s remarkable world of Middle-earth and to follow the complete story of Bilbo Baggins and the Hobbitsā€™ part in the epic quest for the Ring ā€“ beginning with Bilboā€™s fateful visit from Gandalf and culminating in the dramatic climax between Frodo and Gollum atop Mount Doom and Bilboā€™s departure to the Grey Havens.

“The Hobbit,” written by J.R.R. Tolkien, is a beloved fantasy novel that takes readers on an epic journey through Middle-earth. It serves as a prequel to “The Lord of the Rings” and tells the story of Bilbo Baggins, a hobbit who is swept into an adventure with a group of dwarves to reclaim their homeland from the dragon Smaug. Here’s a detailed summary of “The Hobbit,” complete with emojis to highlight key elements:

      • Bilbo Baggins and the Unexpected Journey šŸ”šŸ»

        • Bilbo Baggins, a hobbit living a quiet life in the Shire, is unexpectedly visited by the wizard Gandalf, who invites him to join an adventure with 13 dwarves. The dwarves, led by Thorin Oakenshield, aim to reclaim their ancestral home, the Lonely Mountain, from the dragon Smaug. Bilbo is hesitant but eventually agrees to join the company as their burglar.
      • The Journey Begins šŸŒ²šŸŒ§ļø

        • The company embarks on their journey through Middle-earth, encountering trolls, goblins, and wargs. In the Misty Mountains, Bilbo gets separated from the group and finds a magical ring that grants him invisibility. He uses it to escape from Gollum, a mysterious creature who lives in the caves.
      • Encounters with Elves and Men šŸžļøšŸ§ā€ā™‚ļø

        • After escaping the goblins, the company meets the elves of Rivendell, led by Elrond. Elrond helps them decipher a map that leads to the Lonely Mountain. The journey continues through the dangerous Mirkwood forest, where they face giant spiders and are captured by wood elves. Bilbo uses the ring to help the dwarves escape from the elves’ prison.
      • Reaching the Lonely Mountain šŸ”ļøšŸ‰

        • The company finally reaches the Lonely Mountain, where Bilbo is tasked with finding a way to the dragon’s lair. Using the ring, he sneaks into the mountain and meets Smaug, the dragon guarding the dwarves’ treasure. Bilbo’s cunning helps him escape from Smaug, but the dragon, angered by the intrusion, flies out to attack the nearby town of Lake-town.
      • The Battle of the Five Armies āš”ļøšŸ¦
        • Smaug is ultimately defeated by Bard, an archer from Lake-town. With Smaug gone, the dwarves reclaim their home, but tensions rise as various factionsā€”dwarves, elves, and menā€”seek a share of the treasure. The situation escalates into the Battle of the Five Armies, with dwarves, elves, men, goblins, and wargs clashing on the battlefield. Thorin Oakenshield, who becomes obsessed with the treasure, dies during the battle, but his sacrifice helps bring peace among the factions.
      • Bilbo’s Return to the Shire šŸŒ„šŸƒ
        • After the battle, Bilbo returns to the Shire, a changed hobbit, with new friends and experiences. He brings back treasures from his adventure and resumes his quiet life, although the memory of his journey stays with him forever.

“The Hobbit” is a classic tale of adventure, bravery, and friendship, filled with memorable characters and epic moments. It’s a story about stepping out of comfort zones, facing fears, and discovering the hero within. The book has inspired generations of readers and serves as an enchanting introduction to Tolkien’s larger Middle-earth legendarium.

      1. Fabled Books

All 4 volumes have been brought together in this fine boxed set by Harper Collins. The set comprises the paperback versions of the books in a cardboard slip case. Harper C has produced here a set befitting this magnificent epic, of outstanding print quality, perfectly textured and tinted paper, impeccably proofread, and held together with sturdy spines. The paper even has that wonderful antiquarian smell that lend the bibliophile that extra character to make the reading truly memorable and invested with nostalgia for subsequent reads. Vol 1 (The Hobbit) has several evocative illustrations and maps in black and white, that perfectly complement the storyline and timeline with their antiquarian woodcut engraved quality. The other 3 volumes unfortunately are devoid of any visuals. An excellent and affordable edition that you will enjoy several times over, and will display handsomely on your bookshelf. My set arrived in excellent, brand new, well packed, shrink wrapped condition in just 3 days.

      2. Mirza Amad Beg

The packaging was Excellent, The Quality of the Books were Fabulous, Original Books. Iā€™d say it was worth it.

      3. Giby

The books aren’t in “perfect condition” and doesn’t look new and glossy. It’s not that much of a damage but for a book lover who cares about these little things, it matters. The font is small, which is usual for books, but just mentioned in case it helps. The packaging was perfect with bubble wrap and cardboard. Happy reading!

      4. Amazon Customer

        I loved it

      5. Yashin Ahmed

Came to know about it after watching Peter Jackson’s trilogy film on this amazing book by J.R.R Tolkein a decade ago and the Hobbit recently and was curious to read these books. A mind-blowing fictional writing which overtake the reality and it is surreal. A book that makes its reader’s keep on turning the pages.

I am a 27-year-old college professor of English literature and am ashamed to say that I had not read the Lord of the Rings before. It was quite popular even during my childhood, for the first movie came out in 2001, and actually performed quite well at the Oscars.I got this box set for just ā‚¹819/- during the August 2021 Lightning Deal, and although I had The Hobbit already, I decided the buy the box set. The books did not arrive in impeccable condition. The box was torn and damaged. One of the books, The Hobbit, also had a damaged cover. Thankfully, I had an extra copy of the book. Overall, I am satisfied with the purchase, considering the price. Now coming to the books themselves, only The Hobbit has big comfortable font. The other three books have small print which might strain your eyes if you have eyesight issues. The books themselves are comfortable to hold. They are not heavy but I feel the paper quality from Thomson Press could have been better. It may not be good for underlining and scribbling on the margins, which I do occasionally while reading. As a piece of literature, we know that this series has stood the test of time. Tolkien was a professor himself, and his favourite pastime was making new languages. He was also a translator par-excellence; please read his translation of ‘Beowulf’, an old English poem featuring dragons and Danish kings. Now a word of caution: I have heard a lot of people say that the books are difficult to read, and even that it’s slow! Tolkien was not a millenial. When he wrote the Lord of the Rings, he didn’t know that one day people would be glued to their mobile phones and would have short attention-spans. The problem with most of us today is that we love racy plots which move at breakneck speeds. Tolkien writes for people who savour language, and indeed the language itself may feel convoluted at parts. But that is the greatest enigma of his writing. He conjures worlds that people have tried to imitate and have failed. Tolkien was a genius and you will feel it after reading it.Trust me, if you enjoy reading the Lord of the Rings, you will enjoy everything else. That is because Tolkien builds the most complex worlds, and his books can be quite daunting at first for the casual reader. But once you finish this, you will gain more confidence to read longer fantasy worlds.

greatthe cover designs are very cute and minimalistic. However i didnā€™t realize i was buying such tiny books. They are still readable, print is very nice. I will say it is hard to read them at night with a book light or lamp only because theyā€™re so small and itā€™s hard to read towards the spine without breaking it.

Great buySuper excited to start reading my favourite series!
