2022 Favourite ❤️(💫Top ten favourite classics of all time ♥️)🌟The book is short but it feels like there’s a whole adventure of an era.It is the story of a dog who was quite spoilt by his owner. He got kidnapped and sold to another faraway country where he gets mistreated and put to work under extreme conditions. It’s his story of change, the evolution of someone meek and docile to someone who rules their own territory! The writing is gritty, urgent and has a strong voice. The characters stand out especially Buck, our main protagonist who is a powerful St. Bernard-Scotch Shepherd.I was in total awe seeing the progress in the plot, the writing and the character development. It’s so good! While reading this short classic, it never even once felt like I was reading a very popular book that was written years ago. I felt that this book just came out from the publication house for the first time!I still feel this book isn’t wide read and is still very underrated. One of the best reads for me.Now this book is one of my all time top favourites!

A compelling story about the relationship of man and his best companion, dog, and about their struggle against the untamable forces of nature. Ironically, I see in man the same inner conflict that Buck ( the dog who is the protagonist in the book) went through: the inner conflict between primordial impulses and exemplary behaviour. I can’t help drawing an analogy between the complete transformation of Buck into his primeval form, a wolf, and some people ( especially in conflict zones) who in their struggle for survival and power have shed all semblance of decency and acceptable norms of a civilized society and let their primitive instincts take control over their lives. Though this book is not for those who can’t stand blood and violence, I highly recommend it to people who enjoy reading about the wild, adventure and myths, and who like to dwell on the human and the animal psyche.

It is a struggle to rate this book. It is short but maybe not short-and-sweet. There is eloquence in the writing which makes me want to rate it at 4 stars, but the story line – a story about a dog named Buck – is something that I struggled to grasp. Hence settling for 3 stars.

One Classic tale of a beautiful, brave, a natural born leader dog who learnt it all from the best teacher, The Wild !!When the novel opens, Buck is a King inside Judge Miller’s sprawling home in the “sun-kissed” Santa Clara Valley, which he obtained by his birthright. As the novel closes, he is a King again, but this time the kingdom of his is now poles apart. Most importantly, he has won this kingdom by his own efforts and hard-work. He is a self-made Leader, having faced a cruel, uncaring world—and mastered it.Jack London’s Buck is not merely an animal, but is capable of thinking like a human, concerned about justice, and able to feel shame. He is, much like the human beings who surround him yet intensely self-conscious. We see our own lives being reflected in his as he proceeds on with different stages of his life.

The CallI read this book as a child when it was suggested to me by not only my family, but by my school. I’m not certain how old I was, but I’m certain that I wasn’t out of grade school. Of course, this was a different time when we found different priorities and I suppose my reading level was more important than my not finding the book I was reading to be full of sadness. Doesn’t most children love dogs and find animal abuse horrifying? I know that I certainly did, but once you start a book like this there’s no quitting it. So anyone who has not read this book and thinks it’s a good adventure book to give to a small child, I suggest you read it first. I was a tough kid, it was okay, just not what I expected as a child hoping for adventure. It is a good book though, good enough for me to want to put it in my reviews and even skim it again. The story is set during the Klondike gold rush when a big and beautiful pet is stolen from a ranch in California to be used as a sled dog.Buck’s life changes overnight from being pampered to being beaten by humans and bullied by other dogs. The temperature drops practically overnight, and Buck must learn to adapt to living in freezing conditions and snow with no shelter and very little food. He learns the pecking order fast, and learns that he doesn’t want to be submissive. When they reach their destination the dogs are starved and further abused, but Buck is fortunate and is saved by a kind man that he forms a new bond with. That was one of my favorite parts of the book. This is still a classic and good for young adults, but not for children imo.

Ele nunca perde a dignidade.

      11. D. J. B. James

Cracking tale superbly written. Jack London keeps the pace running on this epicA big, privileged southern dog gets his life inverted by his theft. Shifting from one vicious owner to the next, the big dog, Buck, has to use to wit, cunning and strength to remain alive in the frozen and brutal world of the Klondike Gold rush. At last he meets a good man, John Thonton, who saves his life and Buck doesn’t forget it. Prospecting far into the rugged mountains of the interior, he accompanies his new master and two friends, before finally answering the voice he’s heard all of his life. It’s a wonderful story.
