This is not your usual whodunit. You know who the antagonist is, right at the start. But the beauty of this book is the story, the characters and the family bond that comes across loud and clear in each page. Definitely worth it!

One of the rare NR books I was too bored to finish. Definitely not up to her usual standard

I bought the kindle version, and it reads clear. The plotline is decent. I’ve liked Nora Roberts for years, but am so disappointed with her recent work.- It could’ve been denser and is stretched out quite unnecessarily at times.- The whole amazing family troupe wears one out.- But most importantly, those coke ads need to go or at least be reduced. A ctrl f shows 27 direct references in the book not to talk of the description that follows them, and apart from the number of mentions, it’s also the terrible placement that makes me cringe. At every critical juncture when things should flow smoothly, they randomly talk of pouring cokes, stocking cokes, bringing out cokes to drink. cutting the story to pieces. The bad people are literally like “no carbonated sugar”, while ALL the good people drink a ton of them.- And this feels like a repetitive issue with quite a few of her recent works.

I downloaded Hideaway by Nora Roberts to feel happy and good which is what an NR book always provides me with. Love, family relationships and a good mystery to keep the reader engaged, NR has been doing it for ages. Hideaway became the perfect book for me to curl up with and be lost in.The protagonist Caitlyn is such a lovely character that it was easy to relate to her as a child, as a young girl and then of course as an adult too. There are not many authors who capture family relationships so wonderfully and NR has been doing it consistently for God knows how many years now. The Sullivan family with a background of Hollywood dazzle was such a delight to read with all the drama that unfolds in a large family. Adding a ranch, with a cowboy hero in Callan and then some cute dogs, the reading becomes heavenly. The suspense adds the much needed angst, else most NR books have a feeling of cloying sweetness but Caitlyn’s struggle in each stage of her life was delicately portrayed and I felt it did balance all that sugar.Exactly the kind of read that I wanted when feeling low and out, Hideaway provided the required hideaway for me too.

Cate is haunted by her past. An actress and an intimate part of the Hollywood royalty, Cate was kidnapped as a child by her own mother. If you’ve read anything by the author, you know what happens next.I sometimes think, it’s my stubbornness that makes me keep going back to the author’s new releases but Roberts has the capability to surprise us. Her romantic thrillers are atmospheric and gritty, the romance refreshing. But Hideaway was a different kind of disappointment. The plot was predictable at best and a copy of her previous work at worst. The odd couple was a surprise but that’s not much in a 800 page story. I really hope Roberts does better in future. No pressure though, I’ll need a lifetime to finish all the books she has already published.

Best read I’ve had in ages! This book was full of family love and their values. It follows the growth of a young child after being devalued by her Mother. It follows her life and growth while reliving her past and the continuing intrusion and fear from it. One of the best I’ve read in a good long while!

Nora Roberts is one of the best authors I’ve read.Love the way you get involved with the characters. You get so involved in the story you can’t hardly put it down.
